The CSIR International Convention Centre (ICC) joined the rest of the world in commemorating Nelson Mandela International Day by continuing its commitment to making a difference in communities in which it operates through a series of outreach events.
The ICC chose the Give them Hope Foundation, an orphanage based in Nellmapius, Pretoria, as a beneficiary of its donation drive. The Foundation is dedicated to helping children from 0 – 18 years of age. Amongst the children, are those who are HIV positive, orphaned, abandoned and those who live with poor or sick parents who cannot take care of them. Furthermore, the foundation provides children from child-headed households with daily meals after school.
The CSIR ICC team donated the following items: pens, school bags and notepads, as well as banqueting serveware material such as bowls and plates.
“Your contribution lifted the children’s spirits by alleviating the strain of coping with their daily issues. In Sesotho we say, ‘le kamoso’, a Sesotho proverb meaning ‘continue to help in future’,” said Matshidiso Pinky Mothiba, the founder of the Foundation.
The CSIR ICC has placed a branded donation box in its foyer and encourages visitors to donate their conference materials or surpluses. The Centre also extends its gratitude to those sponsors, delegates and clients who continue to contribute to the initiative.
